Dessert #30 **sold**

One of the interesting things I've noticed while doing this blog is how difficult it is to come up with a "traditional" Christmas treat that rings true with most people. Once you step away from sugar cookies shaped like trees, candy canes, and of course fruitcake, it gets a little muddled. Chocolate covered pretzels may be standard fare for some, ribbon candy for others, personally I miss mince tarts enough right now I am thinking about making some. These, in case they aren't standard fare at your house, are marzipan fruits.

A friend of my Grandmother always had a few of these on the top of a cake stand, and I thought they were pure magic. Made with almond paste, the colors were airbrushed, my sister and I probably ate far more than our share.

This tiny piece is 4" square, painted on a standard depth canvas. Not too difficult to guess who painted it, but if you do it is $75. Otherwise it is $85.

Dessert #28

Do you know how it is when you repeat a word over and over again and it stops making sense? It just fragments into a sound you don't recognize? Paintings do that too, especially ones like this where the composition is a little abstract, and the subject a little vague. I was working on this (ok, no guessing today) and it just looked like a jumbled up mess. Scott walks by and says "Hey, that looks great." I couldn't see it, it had broken down into little blobs in my head. But when I catch it out of the corner of my eye it instantly reads "Buttertarts!"

So here you go, buttertarts on a deep blue green plate. A tiny piece, just 4" square on a standard depth canvas. Hang it as is, or tart it up in a hoop-di-la gold frame. $65

Dessert #27

A slightly skewed look at a Christmas cookie. Frosted in green and dotted with dragees. (A quick look on Wikipedia brings an interesting factiod that the US Food and Drug Administration does not consider the metalic shine on these little babies "edible.") In any case, I hope this cool blue and green treat will find a happy home. Or at least inspire you to get a little Christmas baking done. Enjoy! If you care to guess the painter, this little number will be $95, otherwise it is $105. It is a 5"x7" painted on a traditional, narrower canvas, and would look stunning in a fancy silver frame.

Dessert #25

This little trio of gingerbread men is a perfect example of what we call a "swifty nifty!" A fun little piece that seems to paint itself. Nestle it in the greenery along a mantle for a burst of handmade holiday cheer. This piece measures 5" x 6", painted on a standard depth canvas. $75, or $65 if you guess who was was the swifty!

Dessert #23

A pair of snowflake sugar cookies to dress up your holiday decor. Sitting on a square of red, you may notice the primary color triad being used in this piece, red, the yellow of the cookies, and blue. The white is actually full of color on closer inspection. This little painting is 5" square, on a deep canvas, just like the cupcake series. $110, or a flat $100 if you can guess the artist.

This little beauty is $75, or $65 if you can guess who painted it...Scott, or Kathrine??

Who can resist a chocolate chip cookie? This is a small piece, just 4" square. It is painted on a traditional depth canvas, about 3/4" thick. The edges are painted black, and it can be hung as is, propped up on a tiny easel, or framed however you'd like. The background is a warm green, a perfect addition to a traditional color scheme. Dessert #2 **sold** (painted by Scott)

The second piece in the series is a chocolate dipped strawberry resting in a fancy silver foil cup. The background is a soft violet. Like the first, this piece is 5" square and is painted on a deep canvas that can be left unframed. Can you tell if Scott or Kathrine painted this piece? The price is $110, but we'll take $10 off if you guess correctly.
